10 years ago I was flying to Lebanon to teach music at the American Community School in Beirut. It was 2010 and I am pretty sure the apartment I lived in during that time has been blown up. My heart is with the Lebanese people and all helping to support them in this moment. I remember singing Better Me at a school talent show and a student coming up to me and saying, why are you a teacher? Why are you not a famous singer? I left Beirut 3 months later and recommitted my life to why I am here. That led to the 2012 release of Isn’t it Amazing?
Now here I am in Boston, MA stepping into a new teaching position at The Meadowbrook School of Weston in the middle of a global pandemic and the cultural pandemic (and hopefully transformation and reparation) of systemic racism. Full circle for this little human being, I must admit.
If there is one thing I know now on the eve of my 49th birthday, I was born to be a teacher and my students are here to awaken me.
In September of 2001, I was living in Brooklyn, NY and was working on the 16th floor of Rockefeller Center as a temp when two planes hit the World Trade Center. This past March, as COVID took NYC by storm, I was in Boston, MA remembering that time vividly.
2020 has taught me time is a spiral, everything is energy and when in doubt, I choose love. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
In 2007, my mother left her body, though her Spirit is endless. She birthed me into a body in August of 1971 and in that year, a lot of amazing music was released (Ain’t No Sunshine, Imagine, I Feel the Earth Move, A Case of You.)
On May 17, 2019 I released 12 Rebirth. It was my greatest and most loving creative achievement to date. The honoring and end of a chapter.
Today, a new chapter begins.
Sounds of Alicia.
I wonder what will happen next.
Will you join me?
Happy New Moon in Leo – August 18, 2020
Another December and I’m coming home, but not like I’ve ever done before
I can’t help but remember all the places you had me roam, so I could be here now for what’s in store
And I’m gonna Be the light I always dreamed I’d be
Be the light for all to see
Be the light I always dreamed I’d be
Be the light for all to see
-from Be The Light by Alicia Mathewson originally written in 2008, recorded in 2015

I hope you are taking time to be still, listen to your favorite music, take walks in the woods, rest, drink water and connect with like minded loving friends. 2018 will be all about love. It’s YOUR Choice whether you focus on love or focus on fear. CHOOSE LOVE. it’ really is the best way to go.

I have written many songs about the magic of September. Perhaps because my birthday is in August or I have been a perennial student, September often feels like the new year to me.
I wrote September Again when I was around 22, having just lived in Ptown for a while and was facing a sense of who am I without the structure of school?
I wrote Sweet September just after turning 40, returning to Cape Cod, and completing 40 days of chanting that led me to my current career of music and transformation.
This September, I don’t feel a song coming, but rather an epic musical. It’s kind of a scary feeling because I have written a musical before and I know what it takes to complete it and get it up on stage. Those fans of Love according to Luc may remember it from way back in 2004.
As the new multidimensional musical ruminates in my creative psyche I will be singing and touring often in the fall, winter, and spring, so stay tuned and keep listening.
May this new moon bring you a TRUE SENSE of newness. May you awaken right NOW in this moment and create all you know you are. JOIN ME TONIGHT at Innerglow Yoga in Mashpee for a NEW MOON YOGA FLOW with Kristen O’Toole Yoga 6-7:30pm.
Let’s ROCK this September. love love love

So many people are writing and talking today about this solar eclipse and new moon. I am so grateful to be back in the recording studio. Being in the studio is one of my favorite ways to spend my time. It’s creative, expansive and requires collaboration and focus. I am recording some original songs and bunch of chants and I can’t wait to share it all with you. We are aiming for June release so stay tuned.
In the meantime, enjoy this new moon energy and plant seeds with consciousness and love. You may want to download this meditation from my Friend James. I did the background music.
Spring is here. What do you want to create?

So here we are. the first new moon of 2013. It’s been an interesting ride hasn’t it? Dec 21, 2012 came and went and here we are. life is just about the same – or is it?
In 2013, I will be blogging consitently on the new and full moon. why? because I LOVE the moon and LOVE the cycles it has and what it teaches me about my own cycles. We are human – a part of nature – and we have cycles.
On Dec. 21, 2012 a 26,000 year old cycle ended and a new one began. This is a scientific fact, not a woo hoo spiritual prophecy. If you believe in science, you must acknowledge how much has changed for Humanity and our planet over the past 30 years and that we (whether we like or not), must change along with it.
Change: this is often a hard thing for us humans. In the Buddhist tradition, we are taught, NOTHING IS PERMANENT. Try telling that to this lingering cough I have had for almost 5 weeks. YES, perhaps like you, I have been navigating life while also having a cold. It has reminded me to rest, go slow, be kind to myself and others and TRUST, that no matter how I feel – physically or emotionally that too will pass. Thank you lingering cough for enlightening me (once again!)
If you are going through changes, experiencing loss, confusion (a lingering cough), or just find yourself feeling like you could use something new, please consider calling upon me through Sounding Still Wellness at our new location right in Barnstable Village. A Rising Star Healing Session, Voice lesson, or Meditation Class could be just what the Doctor ordered.
And as always, I hope to see you at Chat House on the Cape or in some yoga studio for some live musical love. Happy Happy new moon! Create Love. Enjoy this song I recently posted on youtube.
