IMG_6914I have written two songs about September, one when I was 25 (September Again) and living in Provincetown and one when I was 40 and I had just completed singing 40 chants in 40 days leading up to my 40th birthday (Sweet September).  I had returned home from a short stint of teaching music in the middle east and the Cape Cod September was absolutely breathtaking in every way.

Right now feels magical to me, especially because I am not a traditional student or teacher returning to the grind. As a freelance musician and small business owner it feels like a breath of fresh air, a moment in time suspended in between the rich abundance of summer and the quieting down of winter. I love it!  Please join me this Friday night at Centerville Yoga & Wellness for a wonderful healing & chanting concert and get a taste of this joy. Or later in the month for the first time ever in HOUSTON at Nia Moves.

At age 25 I was still reflecting in my songs on the bliss of playing field hockey – one of my most favorite activities. By the time I got to 40, I was reflecting more on how the nature teaches us that nothing is permanent and like the earth we too have cycles of loss and growth. And they are necessary and best when embraced with joy.

Now at 44, I feel the incredible gift of living in New England and of watching the seasons shift year to year. The number 4 connects for me to the heart and that is where I am now. All Heart. This has been a process and not always easy. As someone who was very well-educated and valued intellectual rigor, it took time to allow those “this is right, this is wrong” thoughts to soften and feel my conciousness literally drop down from my head into my heart. When I am in my heart, everything feels easier. There is no need to prove or defend or argue. There is just, “what’s next?” “I wonder what that is?” “How may I serve?” Obviously this is an ongoing process, but at 44, I feel the most in my heart I have ever been – at least since I was 4. 😉

It is ALL HEART.

IMG_5240Wow. Another full moon in August has come and gone. I don’t know about you but this past weekend on Cape Cod was just perfect. Full Moon. Hot Sun. Cool air. Beach time. Live music. Family and Friends. As Mark Erelli writes in his song August, “A fool would ask for more” (ps. check out his new upcoming release Milltowns on Sept. 9)

This time last summer I can’t say I felt as good as I do now. In fact, I had just finished 30 days of antibiotics for Lyme Disease and was not feeling very inspired in general. Isn’t it amazing how our lives go through cycles. The longer I live and practice spiritual teachings I have received, the more I allow this to happen with ease and grace.

Want to open yourself to some of these teachings, not to mention connection, community, fun, and BLISS? JOIN US this weekend at Love Yoga Fest. I will be opening the day on Saturday at 7am with a chanting of the Gayatri Mantra, among other chants and then signing again on the Main Stage at 5:00pm. I will also be at a healing table with Kristen O’toole offering the Prema Agni & Rising Star Energy Healings Systems. This energy was taught to us by Derek O’Neill, who will be in Boston on Nov. 9. What a gift to Cape Cod!! I remember just a couple years ago we were doing yoga on the Green and now here we are!! Thank you Love Live Local Ladies and Annika for birthing this dream I had imagined way back then. May All Beings in All the Worlds be Happy and may CAPE COD lead the way.

2013-yogathon-new-englandI am singing at the Cape Cod Chat House tonight and am splitting the bank with Yoga Reaches Out. After the recent events in Boston, I am so grateful to be gathering with the YOGA community of Boston and beyond to celebrate the power of LOVING ACTION. if you don’t know about the New England Yogathon yet. tune in baby. I will be singing at Gilette stadium on this Sunday while my friend and owner of Power Yoga of Cape Cod, Jill Abraham teaches yoga.

This is a dream come true and just one flower of many that has begun to bloom as a result of seeds I planted in early 2011.  We are always planting seeds. in every moment. so choose wisely and don’t let the events that are happening around you shift your focus for too long. love love love.

I am also SO HAPPY to be at the First Encounter Coffeehouse this Saturday night as a a part of a Celebration of local women songwriters.

More seeds have sown another trip out to Northern California from May 1-8, where will be leading a womens retreat with my good friend Andrea Spacek, as well as doing my first ever gig in Sacramento at The Coffee Garden.  I will also be playing again for Ryan Bailey at East Wind Yoga in Auburn, CA. What a gift to be oooommmmming coast to coast!

REMEMBER, we are always planting seeds in every moment. so choose wisely and don’t let events that are happening around you shift your focus for too long. love love love.

Isn’t it amazing what can happen in a year?
AMathewsonCD_W138_print.inddThis time last year I was in full on production mode working to get my CD 2012: Isn’t it Amazing? done in time for all the parties. March 22, 2012 was such a special night for me and all that attended. It was my intention to use that event at the Cape Cod Chat House (as well as events in NY and LA) to not only launch the new CD and celebrate but also to help birth a new vibration of love, peace, truth, right-conduct, & non-violence in myself and for all.

I have now sung “May I be at Peace” in many different settings: yoga classes, coffeehouses, healing centers, school gyms, churches, next to the bed of a passing soul, at Creacon Lodge in Ireland, and for women retreats on both coasts. What a gift to be doing what I love with such generous listeners.
