Alicia Mathewson’s Frequencies of Love is a powerful offering of folk and folk-pop songwriting that blends grounded storytelling with spiritual resonance. Her sixth studio album features nine tracks that explore love, loss, transformation, and healing with honesty and melodic warmth.
Mathewson’s vocals and acoustic guitar anchor the album, supported by piano from Allison Leyton-Brown and percussion by Dave Brophy. The album was mixed and mastered at The Orange Lounge in Toronto, Canada, adding a polished clarity without losing the raw intimacy of the performances.
Both grounding and expansive, Frequencies of Love invites us to return to what matters most.
Special Thanks to all the Kickstarter backers who helped make this possible

Happy Full moon!! I am so excited to release another new song!
This song was recorded in the last six weeks on Cape Cod with Jon Evans at Brick Hill Studios.
My good friend and beautiful musician Allison Leyton-Brown is playing piano from afar in Toronto and Spencer Sunshine at The Orange Lounge mixed it for us.
The first verse is about the joy of daily life, the second verse is about being at a kirtan with amazing folks right here on Cape Cod (check out Breath & Sound) and the last verse is about dancing in Ischia with the Happiness Sangha.
No matter what the words say, the music will lift you up and remind you, LOVE IS HAPPENING. even as so many systems are falling apart around us, we have the power to remember the love that we are and the love we can share.
See you on stage in Provincetown soon. GET TICKETS for the conversation with Rita Mae Brown and Felice Cohen

The weather so far in June in New England has been such a gift from Mother Nature. As I am typing this, it is a perfect Saturday morning with blue skies, a light breeze and sun for days. Last night I took a long walk in Plymouth, where I have lived for the last 9 months, and breathed in the healing salt energy of this ocean. I could feel the summer emerging with the sound of loud motorcycles, families in strollers, and friends with cocktails all out to connect and soak in the happy season of the south shore.
A year ago I got a new hip.
So, taking a long walk on the beach and into town is more of a joy for me now than ever before. It was not the easiest year for me as a human (can you relate?). I had multiple losses and changes, started teaching at a new school and living in a new place, all while allowing this new hip to integrate fully becoming strong and flexible again.
The physical healing actually went incredibly well and I was blessed to have such a smooth and easy surgical and recovery process. The harder journey was internal – mental, emotional, spiritual. It was a perfect storm of so many changes while also moving through the beginning of menopause that invited me into the deepest and darkest place I have experienced yet as a human. I don’t say that to get your comfort. I say that so if you too find yourself journeying through dark places internally, you know lots of other humans are on that journey as well. And you are not alone.
The good news about these cycles in our lives, is that if we really show up for them and ask for the right support, they become the gold mines of our true authentic self.
This past winter in an attempt to sleep and survive, I discovered a new meditation teacher Elizabeth Pyjov (from Insight Timer) and was invited to deepen my self-awareness and meditation practice, opening to self-compassion on a whole new level. Even after 20 years of spiritual and self-awareness work, I had to go back to basics. At the end of the day, It doesn’t really matter what triggered it (though my mind always wants to figure that out), what matters is that I applied practices, reached out for help, stayed connected, and healed on a deeper level creating more resilience, more clarity and more wisdom to share.
I look forward to sharing in the months and years ahead through new music, meditation offerings and multiple books.
Meanwhile on planet earth….It’s PRIDE month and I am watching (mostly online) as joy and celebration happens along side protests and demands for more equality and freedom for all beings. It’s a lot to take in and I find being with nature and being present where I am is what helps me feel most at peace and open to honoring the legacy of so many activists and pioneers that paved the way for me and so many others to be OUT and PROUD.
I remember when I went to both the March on Washington PRIDE in 1993 and NYC PRIDE in 1995. It was a revelation for that 22-24 year old and so important to the development of my own sense of self, community and creative expression. The energy and freedom through the multi-layered manifestation of so many different humans was life-changing. It was inspiring and empowering and opened me to parts of myself I had hidden or was afraid to share. I also found my voice playing guitar and protesting at a variety of events for women and the queer community. I am grateful for all of those experiences and honor the fact that now as many are preparing to march in Boston this morning, I am sitting alone in my apartment writing this.
Whoever you are or wherever you are, I hope you allow yourself to open to what helps you be YOU and feel safe to connect and express. If you are someone who uses their voice and body to create more freedom for others, THANK YOU. If you are someone who sits and meditates on well-being for all, THANK YOU. We need all expressions of freedom and peace and I honor all the choices folks make to bring this forward.
Happy June! Happy Pride month! Happy birthday to my hip!

To celebrate my favorite time of year on Cape Cod, I have decided to create Sweet September: 12 Days of 12 Rebirth.
In this series I will be sharing a track from my recent Album 12 Rebirth, talking about its creation and also linking it to an earlier song of mine. Read more about why I am doing this at Day 1.
Day 10 Sanctity and I am that I am
I am writing Day 10 from Creacon Wellness Retreat in Ireland. I just completed a day of traveling and feel blessed to have landed here and now. These two songs could not be more perfect for my arrival here.
Sanctity was one of the last songs I wrote for 12 Rebirth and it was partly inspired by Richard Rudd’s book The Gene Keys. If you have never heard of this book, I encourage you to check it out.
Both Sanctity and I am that I am are what we might call anthems and both have mantras of sound and energy in them. They are both about my relationship with my Highest Self or Source.
Both songs reference Christian scripture and the vibration of what I understand as Christ’s Love. The difference between these songs and your average Christian song is that I do not believe Christ is the only way. I trust all Beings and all Souls to find their own unique way to Love and Unity.
I was blessed to be raised in a Catholic family that embodied the energy of a Loving Christ – one that welcomes all and loves all. Although, my awareness has expanded out beyond any one religion, the Teachings of Jesus are still at the center of a lot of my prayer and way of being. And sometimes when I am writing songs, a scripture or mantra from Jesus will come through.
The good news is that when it comes to music, it doesn’t really matter what I think or why I wrote something, it only matters what vibration ends up in the song and how you feel it. So, I encourage you to spend some time with these tracks and see what opens for you.
I am going to rest now and drink some tea.
Thanks again for tuning in and I will see you tomorrow for Day 11.

Day 9 Love Again and Highest Good
Day 9 has arrived and it also happens to be Sept. 9th.
Day 9 on 9/9. LOVE that alignment. What does the number 9 mean to you? For me, it has always meant completion. Something is completing for me, individually and collectively.
A completion doesn’t have to mean a dramatic end, it could be a very subtle internal shift. The great thing about life, consciousness and meaning is that we get to create it for ourselves. That’s right.
We are the creator of our own reality.
It’s amazing to me that on this day of completion, I am sharing two songs that are about love and how to remember love even in the face of loss or change or completion. Both of these songs were inspired by beautiful women that I loved. Both relationships changed and “ended” in the form they had been, however both these beings are forever in my heart and have forever changed me for the better.
In Love Again, I explore my whole experience with loss, not just romantic love but that early loss we may feel as children when we offer our heart in its purest form and someone else just doesn’t get it. Some of us are more sensitive than others and so this early experience can be marked deeply in our psyche even if the moment wasn’t really that big a deal in another’s reality.
And so, it really becomes our responsibility to love ourselves, acknowledge the truth of our experience and remember how to love again. Love bigger, love better, love with joy and risk even knowing that love can sometimes lead to loss.
In Highest Good, which I wrote in 2008 and recorded on Winds of Sinai, I was very inspired by the music of India Arie. (If you have never listened to her music, I recommend I Am Light)
A relationship that I thought was deeply spiritual and absolutely “meant to be” ended. The writing of this song was my practice of letting it go and allowing a bigger picture to be made known to me.
Since writing that song, my understanding of love and connection has matured greatly and I now truly believe that all relationships are reflections of our relationship with our self and that the end of any relationship is never a failure but rather an opportunity to go inside and reflect on who we are and what we are attracting into our lives.
I fly off to Ireland tonight to be at my spiritual home, Creacon Wellness Retreat and I am beyond grateful that I will be completing this 12 part essay series in that amazing vortex.
Thanks for tuning in and remember wherever you are, whatever you are experiencing, All is Well.
Nothing is here to hurt is.
Everything is here to awaken us to more of who we truly are.

Day 4 I am the Ocean and Sweet September
ahhhhh, finally the song that this whole series is named after, Sweet September.
You can listen and/or watch the video I made around its release in 2012 filled with pictures of nature. My phone has been upgraded since I made this video, so I am tempted to make a new video with even better pics…..Let me know in the comments below if you would like that.
I wrote Sweet September in the fall of 2011 after I had sung 40 chants in 40 days. You may recognize the chant Ong Namo that opens it. I sang it in the style of Snatam Kaur as a way of honoring her vibration on the planet and being in Union with it.
It truly was a Sweet September for me that year, as it was the first September I had been on Cape Cod as an adult in a very long time and it was a coming home – literally and spiritually.
I had just moved through a difficult spiritual expansion and experienced both depression and anxiety as a result. I had let go of my life in NYC and recent teaching job in Beirut, Lebanon and knew I was creating a new life, but wasn’t exactly sure how and when it would all arrive. It was a time of deep meditation, contemplation and ultimately self-healing and trust.
This time I am in now is related to that time in 2011. Again, I have let go of a teaching job and other ways I had been living my life and I am birthing something new. I am so grateful to again be on Cape Cod, enjoying the extraordinary nature and ocean all around me, reminding me All is Well.
Here’s a picture of me from 1972 – my first summer on the Cape. As you can see the Ocean and I were friends right from the beginning.
I wrote I am the Ocean in December of 2018 in a beautiful coastal town in New Hampshire. I was there supporting and enjoying a friend who had recently lost her Dad. We were in between Christmas and New Years and it was unseasonably warm. The time at this ocean with my friend and her family was magical. I have learned that when a parent (or anyone passes), magic happens. To get to be present with the one who is passing or those who are watching their loved ones pass is one of the greatest gifts of being human.
This was the sunrise the morning after my friend’s father’s service and it felt like a direct blessing to all of us.
Right before I went into the studio to record 12 rebirth I first heard the Algonquin Water Song. It is a beautiful video of the Grandmothers passing the song down to the Granddaughters. I was so moved by this song I chose to open the track with it. This vibration holds the love and strength of a Spiritual Father with the wisdom and power of the Grandmothers.
You can also hear it in Our Prayer for the Earth that Vivienne Gerard and I recorded spontaneously at Dreamland. The joyful experience Viv and I had creating the Earth Prayer has led to the launch of a brand new Patreon page, where you are invited to support us, our work in the world and our vision for Gaia’s Love Festival.
What do you get? Peace, laughter, joy, music and inspiration for your unique journey as a Soul/Human, as well as an insider view to our creative process.

Day 3 Harmony and Isn’t it Amazing?
Ahhhh, Day 3 – one of my favorite numbers. 3 is the number of manifestation and both of the songs I highlight in this post are about manifestation.
What does manifestation mean to you? I have been using this word now for over a decade and am sometimes mocked a little by my siblings when I do. You see, they are all very medically and scientifically trained, and so the word manifestation or at least the way I use it, conjures up an image of me living in a kind of magical thinking reality.
They may be right.
I have lived much of my life from a place of magical thinking. This has led me to both success and failure, both peace and anxiety, both love and fear. An amazing journey overall, if you ask me.
I am so grateful for my family of origin for the way they love me and hold this incredibly grounded, educated and “based in reason” energy for me. And there are huge parts of who I am that exist in a much more mystical and magical way.
Because of this, I choose to practice manifestation through my consciousness and actions and….the writing of my songs. It’s as much scientific as it is spiritual. I can’t explain it all here (that’s another blog), but there are many teachers and writers exploring these practices. One of the big ones right now that many are tuning into is Joe Dispenza. Much of what Joe writes about and practices is in alignment with the teachings I practice though Derek O’Neill – you know that guy I like to go hang out with in Ireland. I will be with him and a community at Creacon Wellness Retreatthis month and I am beyond grateful.
Ok, back to the songs. Harmony is track 3 on my album 12 Rebirth and one of my favorite tracks (I might say that about every track). In order to play this track I use a capo on the first fret, bringing the home vibration to 528hz. It makes for a heart opening and healing experience while listening.
The inspiration for this song came from an Energy session I was blessed to have with Vivienne Gerard, the first time I visited her home in Cincinnati, OH. It was 11/11/17 and during that visit she also experienced the Rising Star Healing System through me for the first time. It was like a coming home for both of us and I will never forget the magic of that first reunion of our souls.
The first and second verses are inspired by our session and in the third verse I talk about playing the drum, inspired by the memory of this picture.
It’s only fitting that Isn’t it Amazing? be partnered with Harmony. It was January of 2012 and I began writing it when a friend of mine went into labor to have her first child. It was a powerful experience for me as the song came through and I chose it as the title track of my 2012 record. This was the album that Vivienne first heard me singing on and subsequently used in her book One Day: My Soul Journey in the Gaia Tribe.
I remember creating the songs for 2012 so vividly. I felt this urgency to make it, not unlike 12 Rebirth, like the creativity and vibration that was coming out was deeply important for my own healing and the healing of Earth (Gaia). When this kind of creation doesn’t lead to material or financial success right away, it is easy for us to think, “we must have been imagining that urge” or “my family is right, I am just a magical thinker who can’t afford her own house”.
Connecting with Viv exactly when I did, 5 years after I recorded Isn’t it Amazing?, helped me remember my Highest Path. It helped me remember, I AM ON A PATH- a unique and powerful journey and it is only my self-doubt and fear that gets in the way of full realization, embodiment and manifestation.
What a liberating thing to remember. Want more of the joy that is Viv and Alicia? Join us on Patreon.
And so here we are again today, remenbering to say YES!
Yes, It is amazing. All of it. Wherever you are. Whatever you are experiencing and however you are perceiving IT.
We can all be a part of creating the new HARMONY – inside and out.
That is my commitment going forward, Each action I take and thought I have is in service of creating more harmony in my own spirit, mind, body and in the spirit, mind, body of my family, community and planet.
Each of us can commit to this in our own way and it will look different for everyone. This is the great gift of Humanity, We are One and we don’t have to look like One.
meditate on that.
So much love to all of you, especially those that are heading back to school – teachers and students. Thanks for listening and following along on this journey with me.
