I recently started (again) the couch to 5K app and am on week 4. One of my favorite things about that app are the nice things it says to you throughout your 34 minute walk/run.

“Hey Awesome runner, you’re doing great!”    or

DING “You’re half way there” and, finally my super favorite:

“Keep going, you’re worth it!”

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had an app like this for life. Right at that moment when you are feeling most defeated or weary of the emotional rollercoaster that can sometimes be your life, you would magically hear a little DING and then “Keep going, you’re worth it”

This is what I hope my songs are for some people. Music has certainly been that for me – a message from beyond saying, hey keep going, you’re worth it.

MATHEWSON_IMG_2494 BACK CDOn this day May 17, I am feeling particularly grateful for all the times I heard “Keep going, you’re worth it” whether inside my own being or from the many friends and family I am blessed to have.

Today is the 9 year anniversary of my mom’s death and it does feel like some kind of completion for me. Since her passing, I have written many songs and released 3 CD’s. For this, I am incredibly proud and also am looking forward to all that is coming. In honor of this day and my mother, who was without a doubt one of the most important parts of me becoming the songwriter I am, I offer this song, Thy Will Be Done. I rarely perform it live, so you may not have even heard it.

new-moon-energetics-energy-medicine1There is nothing better than a Monday new moon. Mondays traditionally are when we get back to business, create our week, & set our intentions. On new moons, this is also what we are invited to do. It is an energy of creation and starting out fresh. Isn’t it wonderful that we get a new moon every month? A new opportunity to say, YES, I am worthy and I choose to create that which I desire.

Sometimes, we can find ourselves in a place though where we are not clear what we desire. For me, these can be some of the most difficult times. Even though I have learned over and over again that I am a part of nature and have cycles, sometimes when a cycle comes that feels slower, unclear or painful, I have a hard time trusting that this is just a part of my nature and not an indication that every choice I have made is wrong. When you are a creative artist in this world and choose to be bold and say I have a unique voice to share and I am worthy of making a living at it, on the days that you’re not so sure about that, your doubts can get very large. You can begin to look outside yourself and wonder why you didn’t make some more traditional and perhaps “safer” choices. At least I can.

Each times this happens, however, I return to what feels true to me and am reminded of a great quote from the Bhaghavad Gita, “It is better to do your duty and fail, then succeed at doing someone else’s duty”.

On this new moon, I recommit to what I feel my duty in this lifetime is and trust that not only am I worthy of great success, but that the journey of it each day and my continued belief in creativity and what I have to offer is success in itself.

Thank you for listening and reading and journeying with me on this little corner of our world. In honor of February and all the LOVE that tends to be floating around I wanted to share my track Gate Gate with you. It’s a great mantra of compassion and heart opening. When I recorded it last March, It gave me such joy and I offered the vibration up to all beings that we might continue to open our hearts and trust our true path.

May this new moon bring you Peace, Joy & Creativity.

I have been a creative artist my whole life. I remember being very young looking into the mirror in the bathroom and wondering about alternate universes. The way in which my mind works is ALWAYS. It’s always working and thinking and imagining and creating. Music is one of the simplest and complicated forms of communication and so I think it only natural that my brain and my being decided to express some if this “working” through music.

Most recently I released my third record Wise Innocence after a successful kickstarter campaign and people love it. They are moved and inspired by the mix of lyrics and groove in the songs and find the 6 chants incredibly healing and supportive in focusing their minds or practicing meditation. I would love MORE people to experience this record and benefit from the powerful energies created while recording it.

I need your help! If you’re reading this you are probably already a fan of the music I create and the way I guide a community through being together and singing or chanting. It is my goal in the next 90 days to book at least 5 house concerts and sell lots more CD’s online and in person. If you love my music and/or have had an experience while listening to my music or being with me in person, please share about it here in the comment field and or invite others to purchase my music online and book me for a gig or a house concert.

January: My Song Isn’t It Amazing, from my 2012 release starts rotating on the WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE Podcast – Episode #40. Just as I am beginning pre-production on my new album. A wonderful sign from the universe to YES, record again.

February -Take an amazing retreat trip to Creacon Lodge in Ireland and then beginIMG_6009 recording Wise Innocence at the end of the month at Brick Hill Studios in Orleans.

March – Recording heats up. I finish the song Wise Innocence in the studio with Jon and Fugan and confirm it’s the title track. Plus we have a blast using the BIG DRUM for Hare Krishna.

April – Kickstarter Launched on April 18 new moon. Work really hard for 30 days – sometimes blissful, sometimes really nerve-racking. 😉

IMG_6914I have written two songs about September, one when I was 25 (September Again) and living in Provincetown and one when I was 40 and I had just completed singing 40 chants in 40 days leading up to my 40th birthday (Sweet September).  I had returned home from a short stint of teaching music in the middle east and the Cape Cod September was absolutely breathtaking in every way.

Right now feels magical to me, especially because I am not a traditional student or teacher returning to the grind. As a freelance musician and small business owner it feels like a breath of fresh air, a moment in time suspended in between the rich abundance of summer and the quieting down of winter. I love it!  Please join me this Friday night at Centerville Yoga & Wellness for a wonderful healing & chanting concert and get a taste of this joy. Or later in the month for the first time ever in HOUSTON at Nia Moves.

At age 25 I was still reflecting in my songs on the bliss of playing field hockey – one of my most favorite activities. By the time I got to 40, I was reflecting more on how the nature teaches us that nothing is permanent and like the earth we too have cycles of loss and growth. And they are necessary and best when embraced with joy.

Now at 44, I feel the incredible gift of living in New England and of watching the seasons shift year to year. The number 4 connects for me to the heart and that is where I am now. All Heart. This has been a process and not always easy. As someone who was very well-educated and valued intellectual rigor, it took time to allow those “this is right, this is wrong” thoughts to soften and feel my conciousness literally drop down from my head into my heart. When I am in my heart, everything feels easier. There is no need to prove or defend or argue. There is just, “what’s next?” “I wonder what that is?” “How may I serve?” Obviously this is an ongoing process, but at 44, I feel the most in my heart I have ever been – at least since I was 4. 😉

I hope to see you at a show or at Sounding Still Wellness for a Monday night meditation (beginning again on Sept 14).  Stay tuned for an exciting new VIDEO release of my title track WISE INNOCENCE on Sept 21. It is ALL HEART.
